In an attempt to answer many of the questions about the biohazards of
sorting unfixed cells, Janis Giorgi and I are planning a roundtable
discussion at ISAC. I believe it is scheduled for Wednesday at lunch time.
We plan to propose some guidelines for laboratories doing this. This would
include general safety procedures, "how safe is safe", and ways in which to
determine sources of possible contamination from the cell sorter. We would
like to invite anyone who is interested to participate in the session. For
those of you who will not be at ISAC, please contact myself or Janis after
the meeting so that we can provide you with more details and the conclusions
of the workshop.
