It would appear so. Most references to APC either use 633nm (HeNe
laser), 647nm (Kr laser), or a Rhodamine 6G dye laser (tuned to
>590nm). The dye laser is the only laser that will simultaneously
excite TxRed and APC on a commercial sorter, however. At least until
the laser manufacturers can build an "orange" HeNe that puts out more
than 2mW power; they give you strange replies when you ask for 100mW at
594nm. :)
As for laser selection for a new sorter, I think everyone would have a
different opinion. If you can live without TxRed and APC
simultaneously, you can live without a dye laser (and pink floors). :)
