Thanks very much to everybody who replied to my inquiry about the best
washing solution for the FACScan.
On multiple demand I summarize here the most common procedures, it's up to
you to decide which one to take...
1. Lot of people and (BDIS US + UK) recommend the use of 1-4 % Extran 100
or 300 (BDH Chemicals - Does anyone know their distributor in France ???).
There are rumors that FACS Rinse (BDIS) is just another name for this
(???).
2. Others run 0.1-1 % Triton X 100 or SDS plus destilled water and
eventually 0.05 % of 2-phenoxyethanol to sterilize...
3. Then there are the 10% Domestos users (made up with distilled water and
sterilefiltered). This we keep for up to 3 month in the dark at room
temperature without problems. Domestos is supposed to contain 15%
hypochlorit (in the UK market). In Germany it contains apparently rather
H2O2 than hypochlorit (Other sources ????).
4. Come the safe ones, who buy either FACS Rinse or Coulter Clenz and seem
entirely satisfied with those products... (I don't know the prices, are
they really prohibitive ???)
5. And the classic ones who use 1-10% (and even undiluted) household
bleach, filtering it before, and never having problems.. must be the bleach
quality then !!! Clorox seems to be better than the other ones we have in
France...
And last not least:
Of course there are the lucky ones who never have problems (They never need
to use any of the above products... destilled water seems to do the job for
them - but they probably don't have 20 users a day running dead cells
through the machines).
Well hope that clarifies the issue (at least it does a bit for me - I'll
test some of those now...). If anybody needs more details on the labs using
the different procedures please feel free to contact me directly...
Have fun cleaning..
Matthias
