A method for preventing the nozzle from blocking when running clumpy
samples that is simple and cheap is to make your own sample filters from
hypodermic needles and nylon mesh.
They can be made as follows:
1. Remove packaging from needle
2. Gently heat the plastic end over a naked flame untill it starts to melt.
3. Press the melted end onto some nylon mesh of the desired pore size, hold
it for a few seconds.
4. Trim off the excess mesh.
5. The needle can then be pushed into the sample line of your sorter.
These filters work pretty well, I have used them for sorting keratinocytes
which are big and clumpy. They eventually clog up during long sorts and
have to be replaced. 50u mesh sounds a bit big for a 70u nozzle.
