I reply thus:
You Can buy 'Q-prep' reagent from Coulter at around a pound Sterling
per test. The formulation I give is derived from that which Coulter produce,
minus the 'stabilising' ingredient and an unnamed buffer in the fixation
reagent - as I am sure you are aware.
It may well be that the commercial formulation has superior
qualities such as more reproducibility and maintainence of
morphology/fluorescence over extended periods of storage. This has not been
investigated by us as all our samples are analysed within 24 hours of
processing.
As to whether it is simpler to buy the commercial product. This
really depends on what is important to you. Q-prep certainly has the
advantages of being a quality controlled product and the addition of the
extra ingredients which are not revealed by Coulter (nor are they included
in the formulation I have given) may well render Q-prep a more desirable choice.
However, from a cost per test viewpoint, I feel that the incomplete
formulation I have given offers an attractive alternative
