John,

The linear value for a particular channel number can be calculated using:

10 to the power Channel number/number of channels per log decade.

eg channel 512 of a 4 decade 1023 channel scale = 10^512/256 = 10^2 = 100.

This can also be done in reverse to calculate channel number from a
linear value. In this case use:

log(Linear value) x channels per decade.
