Hello,
I need to measure the proliferation of a specific cell population
(macrophages) and think that one of the bromo-deoxy-uridine and antibody
kits would do the job.

Does anyone have any recommendations about which manufacturer's kit does a
good job? I have experienced variable quality in purchased kits, and
would like to hear from someone who has actually used these before
investing the money. Thanks!

Rosemarie

Rosemarie,

I have had pretty good luck with the mouse monoclonal anti-BrdU from Becton
Dickinson (both unconjugated-cat. # 347580 and conjugated to FITC-cat. #
347583). The package insert includes a method for staining incorporating DNA
denaturation with HCl. I used this method with CHO cells. This is not a kit,
but all the reagents are readily available. Hope this helps.

Linda McGarrity, FDA, Little Rock, Arkansas has made some modifications to this
method and was kind enough to help me with this. If you're interested in the
modified procedure, please feel free to contact me.
